Meaning of 'Hari OM' from Advaita Standpoint

Hari OM is a short form for 'Hari OM Tat Sat'

Om is beyond 3 gunas and goes into turiya state. From OM Maya was created. OM is the representation of Nirguna Brahman. It is the only Mantra that can effortlessly (in hindi: sahajta se) establish or merge the seeker in Nirvikalp Samadhi.

Hara means to remove troubles / bondages / Doshas / Granthis. Hari means one who removes troubles and bondages i.e. Remover of bondage.

so hari is Remover of Bondage

Aum / Om is one which takes one beyond Gunas in to turiya. All 3 Gunas (Satva, Rajas, Tamas) are doshas and OM takes one above these doshas, breaking Hriday Granthi, breaking bondages into the Realm of Atman / Brahman which is Sat-Chit-Ananda. I would collectively call Dosha, bondages, granthis as bondages (Bandhan).

So, Can I translate it as (My salutations (pranams) to) OM, the remover of Bondages, who takes one into the realm of Sat-Chit-Ananda Atman.

Hari is also connected with Shri Vishnu, who is the remover of bondages, granthis, etc.

What is the meaning of word 'Darshan'?

When we say (in Hindi):

'मुझे ईश्वर के दर्शन करने है '

Common meaning and Translation is:

'I want to have vision of God.',

Now, let's analyze a common statement:

'I am going to the temple to have vision of God'

Here, Darshan generally means 'To see'

Now the question is, when: why after going to temple we join hands and then close eyes???

... and if at all we want to see, where to see and where to go?

Closing eyes, to me means that the same God is within us whom we re worshiping outside as an image or idol and go go deep inside us.

Darshan means 'to know' and not 'to see'

Another question is:

What will you call Darshan shastras? 'To see' shastras or 'to know' shastras. The knower of darshan shastras is called as darshan shastri.

I recall a discourse where a Swamiji says, Darshan means to know. If you think it is 'to see' then what does Darshan shastra mean? Do you go to a place with lots of mirrors, some concave, some convex, reflecting funny fat or slim or stretched, etc images??

In Gita Sri Krishna says, My Birth and Karma are divine and those who know me and my karma are not different from me.

The correct meaning of Darshan is 'to know' and not 'to see'.

Overcoming Fear 

God is within me, around me, protecting me, so I will banish the gloom of fear that shuts out His guiding light and makes me stumble into ditches of error.

 

I will wipe away, with the soothing veil of Divine Mother’s peace, the dream fears of disease, sadness and ignorance.

 

Oh God ! Teach me to be tenaciously and cautiously courageous instead of often being afraid.

 

Heavenly spirit, Bless me that I may easily find happiness instead of becoming worried at every test and difficulty.

 

O Father, no matter what my tests be, may I bear them joyously by feeling Thy presence always in my heart. Thus all the tragedies and comedies of life will seem naught but dramas of ecstatic entertainment.

 

Be Happy

 

I will try to be happy under all circumstances; I will make up my mind to be happy within myself right now, where I am today.

 

Let my soul smile through my heart and let my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter Thy rich smiles in sad hearts.

 

Healing Light

 

Heavenly Father, teach me to remember Thee in poverty or prosperity, in sickness or health, in ignorance or wisdom. Teach me to open closed eyes of unbelief and behold Thine instantaneously healing light.

 

Peace

 

Peace flows through my heart

Peace fills me like a frageance

Peace stabs the heart of noise and worries

Peace burns through my disquietude.

Peace like red blood, vitalizes the veins of my thoughts.

Peace like boundless aurwole, encircles my body of infinity.

 

Dear Father, open all the windows of faith that I may behold Thee in the mansion of peace. Fling open the doors of silence that I may enter Thy temple of bliss.

 

Reach God

 

O Father, show me the highway tha leads to Thee. Give me bursting aspirations of the heart. In the echo of devotion teach me to hear Thy voice.

 

Father, enter Thou into my soul through the portals of my heart’s devotion and through my ardent prayers.

Realized saint does not think of virtue and vice

Sri Ramakrishna: Did you have any conversation with Bhaskarananda?

Manilal: Yes Thakur, we talked for a long time. Among other things we discussed vice and virtue. He said: Don’t tread the path of sin. Don’t even think of evil. This is what the Lord requires of you. Perform only actions which bring you merit.

Sri Ramakrishna — Yes, that is true as far as worldly people are concerned. But it is different for those who are illumined, who have realized that the Lord is the only reality and all else is unreal and ephemeral. They know that the Lord alone does everything and that we are all non-doers. They who are illumined never take a wrong step, they don’t have to calculate before eschewing sin. They have so much love for the Lord that all their actions are exemplary. But they know that they are not the doers of their actions, they know that they are only the servants of the Lord – that they are only the machines while the Lord is the operator of the machine. They know that what they are doing is by His will, that what they speak is what He makes them speak, that they move the way He makes them move.

“They who are illumined have gone beyond vice and virtue. They see that the Lord is indeed doing everything. There was a monastery whose sadhus used to go out every day to beg holy food. One day one of the sadhus saw that a landlord was badly thrashing a man. The sadhu was very compassionate. He intervened to stop the landlord from beating the man. The landlord was in a rage. All his anger fell on the body of the sadhu – he thrashed him so badly that the sadhu fell unconscious. Somebody went to the monastery to say that one of their sadhus had been harshly beaten by the landlord. The sadhus of the monastery came and saw him lying unconscious. All five of them lifted him, carried him to the monastery and laid him down. They sat around the unconscious sadhu downcast. Some of them fanned him. One of them said, ‘Pour a little milk in his mouth.’ As they did so, the sadhu regained consciousness and opened his eyes. A brother of the monastery said, ‘Let me see whether he has regained consciousness, whether he can recognize us.’ He spoke loudly to the sadhu, asking him, ‘Maharaj! Who is making you drink the milk?’ The sadhu said slowly, ‘Brother, he who beat me is indeed giving me milk to drink.’

“Till one has realized the Lord, one cannot attain such a state.”

Sri Ramakrishna — And did you talk of anything else?

Manilal: I asked him how one could cultivate devotion and love for God. He said, ‘Repeat the Name. Say Rama, Rama.’

Sri Ramakrishna: That is very good.
